INSANE caudal lure!!! (off topic)

DMong Feb 24, 2012 07:33 PM

This is THE most incredible caudal lure I have even known out of all the snakes that have these and deploy them as a feeding strategy. This one looks so incredibly real it actually makes you want to SMASH IT!..

It's an Iranian Viper(Pseudocerastes urarachnoides). The way the scales evolved and are modified to mimic a head and multiple legs is absolutely INSANE!!!

And an old 1989 Scarlet king photo to help keep it in Lampro theme..

Holy crap that is crazy!!!!!! I would freak out if I saw that. For a minute I thought you posted the wrong pic, until I scrolled down. Thought you were it losing Doug!! Nice Scarlet!!

LOL!!,..yeah, here is the same snake, also commonly known as the "Persian Viper"

You would think it might even have problems shedding the tail tip, but I guess it is very soft and silky by looking at how soft and pliable the feathery-like "legs" are when it moves around. I guess it gets rubbed off pretty easily in the thorny scrub brush and rocks in it's native habitat.

Glad you liked the Scarlet king in the old '89 nostalgia pic, Joe.

So I guess that snake likes to eat whatever likes centipedes (spelling?) and spiders, or some other creepy looking insect. I try to remember that there is someone out there who likes those cretures in the same manner we like snakes before I step on one. Still, spider in my house, dead spider. They freak me out!!

Really Joe? Step on them? I'm rather surprised at you and Doug. I would have thought that both of you would have an appreciation for creatures that transcended the "gross" factor.

To show that I do have a "gross" factor... if it lives off my blood, can transmit disease (ticks, fleas, mosquitoes), and it's on me... it's a goner... other than that... live and let live

Hell, even my daughter has carefully cupped spiders in her hands and escorted them outside when she have found them in her room. One of the best moments with my daughter in regards to my having instilled an appreciate for the "gross" things came when she returned home for a college break... she was standing in the living room eating cereal one morning when a bat that had somehow made it's way into the house flew by her head... I happened to look over in her direction when this occurred and to her credit, without the least noticeable pause in bringing spoon from bowl to mouth she simply stated " Dad, there's a bat in the house". Better still is the fact she's passing that appreciation on to her own daughter.

Anyway, enough rambling... I'm surprised is all.

Nothing gross about a bat flying around in the house at all. A gigantic roach landing on me is a very different story.

Roaches in my close proximity = smashed or sprayed roaches!..

I have nothing against people who keep giant hissing cockroaches, spiders, scorpions and all that at all, but nasty roaches anywhere in my close proximity are where I draw the line on the slogan "live and let live"

They freak me out too. I got a stomachache looking at the vid

I think that has to be the craziest snake thing I've ever seen. That is amazing. It almost looks like some kind of spider has a hold of the tip of it's tail and the snake is trying to shake it off.
