TORTOISES !!! LOL

breaker4show Oct 03, 2003 05:49 PM

Hay,
I am very interested in having a tortise, and something that can live a long life with me ! : ) I have been looking into the feild of African Spur Thigh, but if I dont meet the requirements, then I will look for another type ! How long ( if at all ) could you keep a baby African Spur Thigh in a 40 gallon breeder ? I know that they eat mostly vegatables, but how much, what type, and how often ? I have a very large back yard, and Im not consirned about it havin room outdoors, but I would really like to keep it for the first year or so indoors ! I know I need the reptile uvb bulbs if kept indoors!

Thanks for all the help in advance,
Nick

What type of substrate do you use ? I saw 50/50 sand and topsoil ( with no pesticides or perlite or anything ) ? I have been researching for about 5 hours on diffrent sites and I am mostly interested in the Sulcatta's ! If I got a sulcatta and kept it indoors through this winter ( usually around 40 degrees ), could I try to have a outdoor pen ( 10' X 20') ready by next summer ( usually about 85 degrees )? Would that be ok for this coming summer, and just keep it inside during next winter?

Thanks alot,
Nick

What size tortise table would you need for a baby sulcata for a couple years ? The most room I have in my house for a cage would be my closet ( which i would empty ), and that is only 4' X 2' ! How long could they stay indoors in a 4' X 2' X 2' enclosure ?

Thanks,
Nick
