I believe nothing much has changed, only that a proposed bill has moved from a sub-committee to a full committee... still a long way from becoming law. The vast majority of bills that get this far still never see the light of day. Be duly concerned, it has moved, and we don’t like that. And, be prepared to take action to prevent further movement when asked, but don’t run for the hills just yet, it’s far from over.

Hey!
Here you go. Check out this link. Andrew Wyatt from USARK is interviewed by Herp Nation and explains where we are in the whole process:

Boas are Safe still Just to be clear, as Mark explained the Bill HR 511 went to a different part of committee "Mark Up".

That's just a different part of the process to change some of the wording in the Bill.

I believe more members are added to the committee sometimes at this point as well.

It's not over we still need to be vigilant, personally I do not
believe this Bill will move much further if at all towards
becoming Law !

These law makers just hard at work trying to look like they're hard at work and justifying their existence. They are not happy with the 10s of thousands of laws on the books and need more. Ridiculous. They should grab an eraser and remove stupid laws from the past instead of making more. But that'll mean their existence has less merit and they can bring themselves to do that...even if it's the right thing to do.

In a way I'm glad to see them continue this crusade, and see who are their supporters as our arch enemies in broad daylight and mark them for defeat when re-election time comes. I just watch them digging their graves, especially here in Florida where reptiles are a part of life and herpers are so many. Before Disney Florida was beaches and reptile parks, the native Floridian loves their herps, domestic and exotic...many herpers here and elsewhere are laid back and don't vote. BUT THEY WILL NOW!! Bill Nelson's seat is challenged by Connie Mack, jr. Connie Mack just won thousands of Florida votes by default, due to the ban laws sponsored by nelson. Nelson is toast come re-election. in a state where a few hundred votes can determine the senate or even the whitehouse he's done. His hsus people wont be able to buy his job back for him as i know hes gonna need too many of the votes hes lost- so hes finished. And the new evil responsible for HR511 which raised its ugly head this week is named Rooney. A republican no less, what a shame- but ill vote democrat if he was My representative. He Won't be re-elected...and so will grow the list of persona non grata, oppose the Herper Nation and dig a political grave, laid back herpers that many times will not vote have a cause to do so and I expect strongly will act on it too. and our numbers will determine many races. In time if they're smart theyll see the trend happen and the few smart ones will not want to touch herper laws in fear of losing their cushy jobs...these are not my hopes but what I know will happen...

Hey, Manny!
Voting happens in November, right?
Nelson AND Rooney are both up to be un-elected I think and I want to make sure I cast my vote against them.
Just wanted to verify when.

You're quite welcome. Glad to help.
I was really sweating bullets that day and it seems you were, too.
The interview made me feel a WHOLE LOT better!

Like, Lar, Dan and Manny are really good at reminding us and showing us, we just need to stay calm and positive and take it one step at a time.

We need to be READY...but calm.

Hang in there, my friend, I want to keep seeing your boas in the classifieds for years to come!

Here's this guys info, he stands for some good things but he should be hung for what he is currently doing to us:

http://rooney.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3081&Itemid=37

I expect any and all HERPERS in FL district 16, to get up and vote AGAINST Tom Rooney as he has sponsored this bill on a whim to try and do what Bill Nelson's bill did not. VERY VERY BAD GUY FOR US!!

he was elected on Nov. 4, 2008 so he will be up for re-election this year again...

DOWN WITH ROONEY!!!!!

Aaron_Houts Mar 01, 2012 04:03 PM

Yes!
This is what we need to be doing!
Let's do it, Florida voters.
Thanks, Manny!

I'm a Florida herper and I vote no for Rooney and Nelson. Word got around to a lot of people i know about Bill Nelson, outside of my reptile buddies and I'm sure they will vote against him.
