good feeding news!

Eric East Oct 03, 2003 06:01 PM

my 03 female eastern has been feeding on gold fish & I was going to try scented pink rats this weekend for the first time.
Well, I picked up a couple of pink mice for a couple of small milks that I have but, when I got home & opened the box I discovered that during the 5 minute drive home they grew to fuzzies!! These milks are too small for fuzzies so I was going to freeze them but, then I thought I may as well throw them into the indigo's cage & see what happens & she ate them both, live & unscented!!!!

Good to hear Eric....that girl is going to really put on the growth now. I also wanted to respond to the pics you posted on your 02 female. It doesn't look as abnormal as I originally thought (based on the info you gave me). No noticeable lumps/bumps, however, the area posterior to the vent does taper a little more than the "average" couperi (but there are always variations with any given animal). More than likely, I would venture to say that this very slight abnormality is the product of a temp fluctuation during incubation and shouldn't have any adverse affects for breeding (the pair that your animal came from have never had any genetic problems). But, if you are concerned about breeding her, let me know and I will send another female to you once available (and you can send your's back to me and we will just put her on display and use for education purposes).

I had a female last year that was about 2 months old.
I bought her cheap since she was sold as a non feeder ( ilike challenges). I tried all the methods reccommended such as fish scenting and the soup dipping and many others. She refused everything. One day i had an idea. I had some defective colubrids hatchlings (i had about 50) i got from someone. I tossed a kingsnake in and bam she was slamming it aroung as she swallowed it. I finally found what she liked. She fed non stop on them but wouldn't touch a scenting pinky as i had let the pinky aquire their scent. Then one day i tossed a unscented in and she devoured it and then 2 more. From that day she never looked back and grew fast. The key for her was starting her on other snakes..
Sorry so long...
