Hanging Out...

...with my big male Sonoran, Senoir. He gets restless this time of year in proximity of all of my females - some of which may be starting to ovulate. The answer, I let him out of his enclosure to explore "safe" areas indoors. He'll crawl around for several hours and eventually settle down. Otherwise, he just paces back and forth in his enclosure all day long.

How wonderful to have a room you can let him roam around in!

Pretty soon I will be able to put my pits out in their big screen cages on the front porch for some sunbathing. There is just no place in my cabin that would allow free range.

Makes such a difference for the males to be able to get out and burn some energy exploring something new. Unable to control or regulate their body heat, they run out of gas after an hour or two and when I put them back in their enclosure, they seem much more content than before.

Ahnuld is in pre-moult now and will be the same way (of the same behavior) for the next month and a half or so following. He's so big, there are entire rooms he can roam around in without getting into trouble.

That natural sunlight is a very good and beneficial option for the snakes too.
