overwieght king?

chefdev Mar 03, 2012 07:07 PM

My female king seems to be quite heavy. After a breif brumation I have been holding her by her tail and she is very slow to climb back up. She even shakes a little.

Thoughts?

That snake looks very healthy to me, at least in the picture.

Ehhh..maybe a tiny bit, but I have seen much worse than her. I don't personally think she is that bad at all.

Very nice albino! Wish I would see more of those!

She looks a bit thin. If she is a female they do tend to want to eat more during this time of year so that they can support ovulation and eggs.

if it is a male it is just right.

Do you have a mate for her? Maybe she is already ovulating.

The picture is pre brumation... She has not changed in size though. She is actually quite lage compared to both of my adult male cal kings. My concern is more that she has trouble climbing back up when I hold her by her tail....

That is really not a defining factor on whether a snake is overweight of not.

Is she a voracious feeder? if so, she may be ovulating and you need to feed her more.

Males are supposed to be thinner. Now maybe you can put a male in with her to fertilize those eggs she has in her.

I had the male visit for a couple days this week already... no action yet. I do plan on stuffing her. Three mice this week already. Thanks for the response.

In examining the photo I noticed she seemed to have a very odd shaped head! WTF??? Then I realized she had hold of a mouse...

Maybe she is a bit shaky and weak coming out of brumation because she needs to warm up and get some calories under her belt, so to speak. If after a few good feedings she is still weak and shaky I would hold off breeding her. She does not look at all obese in the photo. I like to weigh all my snakes periodically and keep a record, as eyeballing them doesn't always work for me.
