I'm no expert on breeding hogs. Let me please state that.
But isn't it early to breed? Always nice to have early babies for many reasons. I just thought hoggies breed later in the year.

I was told by Gregg Madden, in an earlier post, to pair them up after their first meal out of brumation!

Well it is March already. I've bred some colubrids, and I just tried to match my brumation period to what is in the wild. that said, i did breed other things early and late. mainly for resale purposes. I know some people use to try to breed off season just to have stuff when others didn't. That would be local people I know some herp do better with that than others. That brings the question in my mind, does anyone have success breeding hogs out of season? westerns that is. I don't have any interest, but knowledge is a good thing.

I do hope they hook up for you.

Listen to what Greg said. They could have bred when you weren't there. They can and do breed this early and some people already have eggs on the ground I'm sure. Mike Bodner

I was just asking. I just wanted to know if it worked out well. many people bred corns all year long. I just had no real reference on hogs.

Not too early. I have my first female in her prelay shed now. She should shed in the next couple of days and a second female is just going into her prelay.
Some females will breed directly out of burmation and others will go through a first shed before they are ready to breed. It seems that year after year each individual follows there own schedule so once you know which females breed right away chances are, they always will. At least this has been my experience.
If your female is pulsating or waving her tail then leave the male with her. If she is not and he is trying hard to get away, then listen to the poor ba@#ard and take him out or she may chew his head off. Litterally. I also have a couple of shy males and it works much better for me to put the female in the males box for those pairings.

one of my males has already locked up with two females. the first one twice and the second one once so far. i seperated them to feed the female but ill put him back with her after a few days and let them lock up a second time(same way i did with the first one). neither of these two large females have shed yet. the third, smaller female i have started a shed cycle after her second meal and so ill be putting a male in with her after she sheds.

I started placing them together a day after each meal since they came out of brumation.

All good information collected and mentally stored. Trouble is I;m low on memory, so new in old out.
This is why we start to forget our anniversaries and other key dates. it's my story and I;m sticking to it.

thanks

my male locked up with the smaller third female yesterday. i placed them together as soon as i found out she had shed and they wasted no time at all.
