Infected hemipene

spider916 Mar 07, 2012 07:29 PM

I just discovered that my adult breeder Mojave has an infected hemipene. I don't know how it happened his cage is clean. He bred 4 girls last season which resulted in 20 eggs. He has been actin normal and shed a weeksgo and ate on Saturday. What meds can be given, I have baytril and access to other meds. What else can be done. When I apply gentle pressure nasty foul smelling cheese comes out in large amounts. He can still keep his member inside but I am afraid if the infection gets worse the swelling will force it out due to increase pressure. Any advise will be appreciated.

Take him to a vet. Obviously he needs vet care.

Is he on aspen bedding? I have had one of my males get a piece of aspen stuck in his hemipene. It was looking red and a little swollen. I popped him like I would do if I was checking the sex. The aspen popped out and everything was fine after that.
