Freddy is back from the Vet...

And yes....he is full off coccidia.
First of all the Vet absolutely loved Freddy and said he looked beautiful and healthy, too.
He gave him a thourough examination, everything looked fine. I told him that Freddy was a very hesitant eater and that i was concerned that the stress of shipping and a new home might have caused a high count of internals.
So the vet did a smear and a float. He always lets me look at the bugs myself, and boy, there were many.
The good news is, that the fecal was otherwise free of anything else.
So we got our meds, and are supposed to bring in a fecal 2 weeks after the end of the treatment, and another one 2 weeks after that.
The Vet was very interested in Parazap and will look into it. He said that he is seeing way to many cases of internals with lizards lately and many are recuring cases. He is afraid that the regular meds will soon not work as well anymore, since the bugs are getting resistant to them.
After all was said and done my cost was.......$29 incl. everything (that includes the follow up fecals as well).
I love my vet. He also absolutley loves reptiles.
Freddy was a champ, and everybody there fell in love with him, and oooohed and aaaaaahed over him.
Hopefully he will feel better soon, and eat more. Vet said not to worry to much, Freddy still had a big belly and was otherwise very healthy, so he should bounce right back.

keep him very well hydrated, im assuming he gave you albon? for coccidia its best to keep them in a "sick tank" get 2 rubbermaid bins and use papertowels as substrate, change them out in the morning, leave the other one soaking in sudsy ammonia, then in the evening switch that one out with the one that was soaking, do the same thing for anything in the enclosure with him, use non pourous things as basking surfaces or things that can be tossed daily such as small cardboard boxes.. trust me.. the key to ridding your dragon of coccidia is disinfecting. also get him on some probiotics such as acidophiliz to replace the good bacteria that will also be lost with the treatment. good luck and let us know how you make out. by the way, your vet sounds great, cheap too!

getting this taken care of early on.

I agree with what reiko said, the key to getting coccidia levels down is cleaning. Coccidia can not continue the cycle if they do not re-infect themselves and even the best meds can not rid a dragon of coccidia if it continues to do this.

What med did he give you and what is the treatment routine?
