HELP!?!

JT3119 Oct 03, 2003 08:03 PM

I have a colony 1.3 and I have 3 hides, a humid hide water/mineral bowls in a sterilite sweater box = 30"x18"x6.5"
My male for some reason won't allow the females to be in another hide other thanm the one he is occupying, should I separate him from them? They really do get along well.
Also I have a female that wont use the humid hide and she just lost a toe. any ideas would be helpfull

if he's bothering the females I'd separate them.
as for the female not using the humid hide, you might want to check her next time she sheds and remove any leftover skin so she doesn't lose any more toes.
A friend of mine got a male that was missing the tips of all his hind toes and he slips off of everything he climbs from.

good luck!

Would it be helpfull if I tried to soak her like I do my snakes?
I never tried it with a Gecko but do you think it would help until she gets over her fear of the hide box?

I would imagine it would be pretty stressful to soak a leo, although I have heard of people doing it. The main areas of concern with retained shed is on the feet and around the eyes. These are usually the problem areas, but it is usually removed easily with a wet q tip as long as you catch it right away. The longer it is left, it constricts and it is harder to remove after time. When I have a stubborn foot shed, instead of soaking I just hold the leo and dip the foot in the water dish a few times to get it good and soggy

Another option, which they hate, would be to give her a spray when she's getting ready to shed, or try moist paper towels under her favorite hide if she won't use the regular humid hide.

hope this helps!

The best way to soak your leo is to run the water luke-warm and put something like a wash cloth on the bottom so the gecko has something to stand on. If you just put her in there, she'll go crazy trying to climb the walls. The wash cloth helps her not stress out so much. Hope that helped.

You only have one himid hide in for 4 leos? This is just with my personal experince but I would put one or 2 more in if you have room. I have 3 female leos in a 20L tank and When I had 2 in there one was ok but know since they are bigger I have noticed that they can still get in there together but that they sometimes fight for the room. So after I added my third one I ended up making a 2 story humid hide. Which Is 2 rubbermaid contianers stacked on top of eachother and hotglued down but I can still take the lids off to change and spray the papertowels. Still after I did that I moticed one was usually out and most of the time they are in there. So I added one more to another side on my cage. Its low to the ground so the like to climb on it. BUt they all have one to hide in. They are between 60-79grams. And all is well. No fighting oer food or hides. They have 3 humid hides. A cave, A log, and a PVC pipe elbow. 2 food bowels, and a larger water bowl.

Great news! This morning when I got home from work, all 4 of my buddies were in the humid hide !! Really soaking it up!
This is a new(my first) colony that has only been together for maybe 3 weeks so I guess that it is just taking them some time to get used to everything, definitly looking up now.
