Skinny Iguana

Tokay_cook Oct 03, 2003 08:54 PM

I got 2 big iguanas from someone who couldnt take care of them because she went away to college. the one iguana (rex) was bigger than the other (spike). before i got them rex would always eat the food before spike got a chance so spike is pretty skinny. A few weeks ago rex got loose and ran away. i havent seen him since. so now i have one very skinny iguana. does anyone have any suggestions on how i can fatten him up?

Lots and lots of high quality food, available all the time. Tempest was extremely thin when he was found, I kept adult ig pellets in his cage at all times, and fed him a huge salad morning and night. Lots of squash, pumpkin, hardier greens like kale and collards, peas, and anything hard like pumpkin and squash, grate it or blend it so its easily digestible and not going through in big lumps. Also, water available all the time too.

Thats very sad about the one iguana No signs of him anywhere? Sounds like they need to be housed seperately even if you do find him again. Good luck!

I would definitly reccomend against the pellets for (Spike?)
I know Tempest gets them but Temp is special I guess, lol, but Spike should "fatten up" under a 5.0 ray, good quality food, and good care. Do you have a large enclosure? Do you plan on keeping Spike?

Good luck

Its a very big enclosure. I plan to keep spike for the rest of his life.

Pellets are good because they don't go off, handy for leaving a full dish in all the time. Otherwise, I agree, your ig is better off with fresh food. Tempest gets full fresh meals twice a day, he's just a freak in that he loves the pellets too silly boy.
