SunHerp Mar 15, 2012 10:00 AM

For those of you who care, two of our own from here in the kingsnake.com forums, Doug Mong and Ross Padilla, put together an awesome synopsis of the history of Honduran Milks in the hobby. Check it out: The Hobby Honduran.

Pretty good stuff, guys - thanks for putting it together!

Thanks a bunch for posting it buddy, and I hope you and everyone else who ever checks it out in the future will enjoy it as well. It took Ross and I a good while to compile it as you could see..

Nice tricolor amel there Cole!. We could have also included that one as another great depiction of the first early amel tricolors to hit the scene in the mid-90's..

I enjoyed reading through that... and the great variety of pictures made it more enjoyable, that Calico honduran was insane looking. I'm kind of thinking I need a couple Honduran Milks in my collection now haha. Good stuff.

Thanks for pointing that out, Cole. I haven't been to that site in awhile.

Doug and Ross, that's a pretty awesome explanation of things as well as a great collection of photos.

I see it as being very helpful to newcomers, as well as being inspirational to breeders. I've been breeding hondos since the 1980s and I'm still excited about the never-ending new morphs.

I thoroughly enjoyed that. I even learned a few things, and saw some variations, I had not seen before. Ross, and Doug did a great job on that piece!

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. I had a blast putting it together with Doug. Doug sure knows his snakes well. The ones he's interested in. I never knew the blog would turn out this detailed when I first went to Doug about it.

Man...I just put this awesome post together, and I was trying to get a few things done in the process...long story short, the website timed out and I just lost everything.

I'll try to make this short and sweet.

This Hypo Tricolor Pinner is the ONLY pure Mega female in existence. (I think Don Shores has a Mega female too, but I'm not sure of her lineage.)

Here is her father (Mega Tricolor Het Snow):

Here is the her mother, a female, previous known as just a triple het, that started the Mega stuff:

As you can see by the pics, she was NOT just a normal, but has some sort of Hypo phenotype going on.

Unfortunately, the adult female "chocolate hypo" died under a vets care, after two back to back surgical procedures to remove a bound egg. The vet just didn't know what she was doing, and I kick myself for not taking off of work to assist in the procedure. If I was there, things would have been completely different.

It was and still is, a huge loss for me and the Mega line.

The good news is, I have this male to pair with the little pinner when they both grow up!

I can't wait, should be a great 2014...hahahaha.

"This Hypo Tricolor Pinner is the ONLY pure Mega female in existence."

Wow! I do really love that tricolor pinner A LOT. Don't stop posting those pictures.

--Dennis

RG Mar 18, 2012 05:39 PM

hahahaha...Don actually reminded me...he has TWO other females!!!

So one of 3...

Don Shores Mar 18, 2012 04:30 PM

The hypo mega female I have is the sister to the original mega that Jeff hatched. I also have an anery mega that now looks like a ghost. She may be a ghost but she looked like an anery when I got her.

DMong Mar 18, 2012 05:22 PM

That would have been awesome if we could have included that one that lightened up later in the blog too..LOL!

A day late and a dollar short I guess..LOL!. There will always be stuff that comes to mind later that we wanted to hit on, but at some point you have to just submit something and make it as good as you can..

We can add to it someday down the road when enough new stuff pops up, but we need to post it somewhere else. Scott would never get it up, and I knew he wouldn't add those other photos.

RG Mar 18, 2012 05:32 PM

About your "Anery" which is really a female Mega Ghost!!!

Don, you should post a picture of her as a neonate and a current pic now...people would really be amazed!

Is this a pic of her as a neonate?:

-Rusty

Don Shores Mar 18, 2012 08:27 PM

Rusty, that is the female. I compared the bands and it is her. I'll have to get a pic and post her.

Don Shores Mar 18, 2012 08:45 PM

Here's actually a photo of those same two mega animals. As you can see the anery now looks like a ghost. I will get a photo of the normal tri-color I got from Jeff Alaway that turned into what looked like a tri-color extreme as an adult.

RG Mar 19, 2012 08:26 AM

Hey Don,

That is just a great picture! I think a close up of the "black" would really show people what the Mega gene can do.

I'm sure it looks very similar to this:

Right?

I also see why you say it might be an Anery. I guess it could be an Anery Mega?

Thanks for posting Don!

-Rusty

DMong Mar 18, 2012 05:17 PM

That is some really interesting info Rusty. Geez, it's too bad some of that wasn't laid out like this for Ross and I's blog. But you were out of town and very busy at the time.

That pure "mega" hypo female is freakin AWESOME!, and so is that insane hatchling hypo you are going to breed to her. At least we got some cool stuff in on the "mega" line stuff. Glad we got pics of those two in as well.

Nah, it was great as it is...there are too many unknowns to really record anything more about the "Mega stuff" any way...we will know more every year!

-R

DMong Mar 20, 2012 04:50 PM

"there are too many unknowns to really record anything more about the "Mega stuff" any way"

Yeah, that's exactly what I kept saying to Ross when we got into the "mega" section..LOL!

I was always thinking how the hell can we add any hard facts when nobody in the entire hobby doesn't really know any more about it than I do..LOL!. So we simple just put photos and captions that couldn't be disputed, like ..."here is a hypo from the "mega" line that was sired by the above mega hypo animal"

Nobody can argue that it wasn't produced by your male..LOL!

Thanks for the thumbs-up on the blog Rusty..

Nice tri-colored albino Cole. I did see the Hobby Honduran that Ross and Doug put out. I loved the pictures and info. I just wanted to let everyone know who hatched out some of my hondurans in the Article.
The tri-colored Mega Double Het came from Rodney Jtineant along with the 2 vanishing pattern ghosts. The aberrant albino came from Joe Exposito along with the vanishing pattern tri-color hypo and the extreme ghost and nicest reverse albino. Mark Bailey procduce the striped aberrant but she came from John Lambert. Mike Falcon produced the Patternless extreme hypo. The Vanishing Pattern mega was produced by Terry Mahuran and Jaap Kooj produced the reverse albino along with Chris Shultz who I think started most of the reverse albinos. I did produce the Hybino and the reverse extreme hypo possible double het and the Opal extreme. Hope I didn't leave anyone out. Jeff Alaway was the first to produce the mega animals as far as I know.

DMong Mar 20, 2012 05:03 PM

Thanks for clarifying who the producers were of some of those animals Don. I wish we could have added a few more of the names into the blog, but there was a lot to cover in a very limited amount of time. Glad you liked the blog Don, and we both appreciated the nice photo contributions from you and everyone else too..
