I am anti-orange/red on thayeri so use the other two males on your females. Doesn't matter which one to which one really. They are all smokin' snakes!

I was leaning in the same direction Jimmy because I wouldn't want to end up with a bunch of red/orange hatchlings. I was thinking that I might end up with a bit more variety using the other two males.

You will still get a variety of colors and patterns any which way. Hence, the name "variable king". I don't know if the orange and red is more dominant or not. Maybe one of the other thayeri keepers will chime in.

Yeah, from what I have always understood, the red/orange coloration is the more dominant polygenic trait in thayeri. But I'm sure this can also vary considerably with any given parents and what types they were produced from.

I guess it's tough to etch in stone anything rock-solid when it comes to "VARIABLE" kings..LOL!

It does seem that way but the oranges were line bred for....
Anyone could breed in a different direction....
I've also seen the msp genes being somewhat dominant....

One must look at the pairing's parents too.... Many traits skip a generation like recessive genes.....
No matter what you will be surprised with any thayeri offspring...

Yes, quite true, and I would very much agree. What seems to "dominate" a bit more in many things is often simply what has been line-bred by folks over the years.

I would breed Julius to as many females as he could handle.....

Why Julius John?

Jlassiter Mar 18, 2012 03:07 PM

>>Why Julius John?

He has that Stahl bloodline....
You will get the best of both worlds.....
Classic Earth tones from the females and the bright and clean from Julius.....
Plus when mixing that orange into the Earth tones you will get some nice in betweeners.....
if you breed the greens to greens you'll get more greens.... Throwing in the orange/yellow will only diversify the offspring....
IMHO

Hi,

you have 3 males and 2 female...that is for me a male too much or you need one more female....

You got some replies with good argument ,why don`t you give 2 males a change this year and the third next year?
Try all possible combinations...in 3 years you can see who produced the best clutch for you...
This year i would pair Julius with Halo
and Limey with Citress,
Next year you can give a change to Noodless/Citress and Limey/Halo...etc...
That would be my plan...

But they are your snakes, so best get a beer take a close look at your thayeris and you will know the answer....and i am sure that you allready know what kind of neonates you want to hatch!
Whatever you do...GOOD LUCK!

yours
Michael
