Greed and a Mojave question....

ajfreptiles Mar 21, 2012 09:50 AM

To make a long story short NEVER go into a partnership with someone unless you get EVERYTHING in writing. I lost almost all my reptiles and racks and equipment.I managed to keep some but the loss was very great. All about greed! Some people are just thieves at heart. Anyway, I just managed to pick up a large Mojave female and for males all I have is a Fire and a Yellowbelly that are breedable. What would be the best breeding to do to get the most bang for my buck? Thanks Andy

breed them both so you make sure and get eggs. Either way, mojo fire or YB mojo will be nice.

Just outta curiosity, how was the partnership laid out??? Isnt the stuff technically your "partners" as well???

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience! Getting a business partnership in writing is always a good idea as you never know how things will end up. With that being said, partnering can certainly have it's benefits. I was lucky enough to partner up with a great friend who not only shared the love of reptiles that I do, but had the same vision as to where we wanted to take our projects. This combined two awesome collections and gave each of us the ability to double the morph pool to chose from when planning our pairings and new animal investments. For anyone looking to partner up, my advice, communicate at all times. Ideas, likes, concerns, irritations, plans, money, etc. I've always heard you should avoid going into business with a friend. In my experience, when the friendship comes first, the animals come second, and the money comes third, it works out just fine!

Andy,

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

My vote would be to breed the fire to the mojave.

I hope you were able to keep the pair of gold blush mojaves, they would go great with the fire.

Hello Brian, I wish I could be telling you I had the Mojaves....Here is what happened.

I went into a type of partnership with someone who I thought we had become good friends. The deal was he had a handful of animals one of which was a pied male, but he had a building on 3 acres that we started to put money into to insulate and wire for half breeding rats and mice and the other half were snake rooms. We had a guy who bought $300 per week worth of rats so we split that and used it in the begining to fix up his building. Our deal was we leave with everything we brought into the partnership, so all my equipment racks and snakes would go with me if we were to ever split...I was not entitled to his building or his animals. All the babies we produced would be sold and money split.
We were about to open a pet shop and my oldest son was diagnosed with leukemia. I was spending alot of time at hospital and told Willy that I just could not continue until things were better. So I was backing out of all pet shop plans and decided to take my animals and equipment and leave.
That's when things happened. I showed up with a Uhaul truck to get everything and he had changed the locks on the building. When he got home from work he showed up and said he did not think it was fair that I take my stuff and go. I talked him into letting me take my adult breeder boas and one of the freedom breeder racks....and when I was trying to bag my ball pythons and more boas he lost it. He literally thru me off his property. I was a bit scared since he is built like a stone cutter...lol...anyway I left and really had no idea what I could do. He owns the building and I have no proof that anything there is mine. I know I was a fool for trusting in friendship. That has been life's downfall for me for some time now...I trust too much. Anyway Brian he has the gold blush pair and also an adult female I had got from Frank martin. Plus all my baby boas I had been raising up to prove genetics on several proj

A note here...he has taken some to sell at the hamburg show in PA...I would like to say don't buy them...but honestly it is better for the animals if you do. He really has no idea what he is doing...I was the guy who had the knowledge...lol...now that's not saying much I know...lol but really I would feel better knowing people like yourselves are buying them to work with them and carry on what I was doing.
I also had 500 adult rats mostly adult female breeders as well. I am building a rat rack tomorrow...I will start over...just may be a while.
Hope you all learn from what happened to me. On a better note...my son is now free of leukemia!!! He and his wife had my first grandson...lol...I am a blessed man ...yes I am.
