Reptibator questions (for hognose eggs)

H_nasicus Mar 22, 2012 01:13 PM

I just had a quick question. When using the reptibator for hognose eggs, do the containers the eggs are in need lids? Or will they be fine without lids? I was just wondering since the incubator itself supposedly either reports on or regulates humidity.

First, to answer your question, yes, you would still need a lid on your container.

Honestly, I would never concider using a reptibator. It is just a glorified hovabator. Top heating incubation was designed for bird eggs, not reptile eggs. Reptile breeders started using them years ago because there were no other options. Now we know better and there are other much better options. Top heated incubators can dry out reptile eggs and forces you to run a pretty wet substrate. The best thing you can do is make your own incubator.

Greg, are there an incubators on the market that you'd recommend?

I always recommend to build your own. Its cheap and easy to do. If you do not want to build your own, Natures spirit is a good choice.
