Western hogs sure are pricey...

but I guess it's a good thing that they're holding their value.

I agree. I am just not adventurous enough to test the waters so to speak with some of these morph prices. But I am grateful people are jumping in. Just means more availability down the road.

Hets or possible hets are intriguing, because you can have a number of them. There is safety in numbers. If one snake does not produce, no big deal if you have others that are. But buying a $3000 little colubrid, raising it and hoping that one snake eventually produces - too much riding on a single snake for me.

Buying an expensive morph is a calculated risk. There is no much that will get in the way of them producing for you if you are taking proper care of them. Your chances of producing from that $3,000 little colubrid are pretty good if you are up on your husbandry.

Gregg I think you are right on, and the best is yet to come out of these snakes I think.I put some money into them this year and I must say they are very cool snakes.
I think one thing to keep in mind with these, are that most of the genetics are recessive. It takes a lot of work to get some of these visual morphs that are out there today. I can’t wait to see what comes out this year. Should be GOOD!!

You have to spend money to make money. Unfortunately I dont have much, so for now it is albinos and some really cool reds and greens.

You said it Gregg
theres a saying I like to stick to in the world of herps. )
quantity don't mean alot if you don't have quality

I'm comfortable with my husbandry skills, it's just that most/all of the morphs are just not financially accessible for jumping right in. They are cool snakes though, and maybe some day.

They are definitely cool snakes. Great personality.

I admit I would surely want a pink pastel snow anaconda tiger hypo hog. Just not in a place for that - got kid's college to pay for, retirement to save for, etc. If I was younger, I'd jump in.

I still think quality is a healthy animal, normal color or not. Spoken like the guy without the pink hognose.

glad to see so much work with hogs. They are a very cool snake. And were over looked by so many years back.

In a similar way the fox snake is over looked as a pet. the ones I had (legally i am old lol) were as nice as any corn I had. i think they could have become a great pet snake in the hobby.

As for hogs, I'm glad that so many people breed all the morphs, but normals. They are all great little snakes.

so when will I see a melanistic hog? or a pied?
