New kings (first in a long time)

Kevin Saunders Mar 24, 2012 05:17 PM

I've always been a corn and rat snake kinda guy, but I've kept a cal king or two over the years, just never for very long. However, I got some new kings recently that I really like. I've reduced my snake collection by quite a bit lately, but couldn't pass these up and I'm really enjoying them so far. This female is an 08 and smaller than I would've expected, but she's eating like there's no tomorrow, so hopefully she'll still do some growing.

2011 male

Let's all play nice now.

That second one looks like a calking cross with a floridana....
Both are nice looking....

Good eye-that's what both of them are. The only difference is he's a hypo. Speaking of good eyes, I think his are really cool looking.

Yes, I got these two and another from Davy. I actually got the male first and liked him so much I ordered the female a few days later-shame I didn't pull the trigger on her with the first order since I ended up paying shipping twice. Oh well, she was worth it.

Good question. The female is supposed to be anery and the male a ghost. However, I'm told these originated from an albino FL and an albino CA and some hypos popped up later on as offspring were line bred. So I'm thinking maybe they're just a normal and a hypo and the color difference is due to the cal king influence? I guess it's possible the FL ancestor was het for anery as well as hypo, but these don't quite look right to me for that to be the case (though I'm far out of the loop on kingsnake morphs). Maybe Rainer or someone else can weigh in on that?

They're also het for albino (poss het in the female's case), though I don't know from which subspecies since the two proved incompatible in the initial cross. I'm not a fan of most albinos anyway, so it won't hurt my feelings if I don't get any.
