Axanthic morphs

loven2tatted Mar 25, 2012 08:10 PM

Hey, I have a huge question for all of you professional snake breeders. I'm new to breeding and more so to the axanthic morph. I just bought a female axanthic from a guy, however i'm not sure if she's axanthic. I know axanthic means loss of yellow, but this little girl has loads of yellow on her lower sides. When I saw this I wasn't going to go through with the buy, but I felt bad for the seller and his circumstances. so now I want to know if I have an axanthic or just a normal. Any info you have would be a huge help! Thanks (:

Pictures would help...any Axanthic should have no yellow....maybe some brown but no yellow.

How do I post pics? First time on forums..

This is the picture of the supposed axanthic. Right along the edge of her belly is all the yellow.

This pic is of a ball that I bought as a normal, and the more I look at her and the more I compare her, the more I think she isn't a complete normal. Since I was asking about axanthics I thought I would throw her pic on here and see what everyone thought of her colors/patterns.

If your a newbie, then, did you know that het axanthics look normal?

Cause, there would be no way of telling that the normal looking snake you got, is indeed a het for axanthic, untill you breed it to an axanthic.

yes, for sure new! I know enough info on most morphs, but next to nothing about axanthics. I've done some research, but I thought I would ask ppl who know a little more. The pic with the one female stretched out, she is what I thought was normal, but most normals have yellow and she has none with high white sides, and I didn't know if that is typical in a normal. But the new female (other pic) which was sold to me as an axanthic has yellow almost lining her sides, So i'm starting to think she is a normal. But I guess im going to have to wait until she is up to size and breed her.

Ok.

I think your older female looks more like an axanthic, than your new one, but I'm not even sure that she (older one) is axanthic.
New one does not look like a homozygous axanthic by the pic.
Both are still lovely gals!

Thank you so much for your thoughts! You were a big help! (:

These are VPI Axanthics. You can see a big difference between the normals and the Axanthics (two animals on the left).

that's why you should always do homework first and make sure you know what you are buying. cant even count the amount of " i bought this as an enchi/axanthic/fire/yb/vanilla threads out there where all people have is normals" knowing what you are buying will definitely help keep you from getting burned
