Was wondering if anyone could give me an answer on if this snake is a Deppei deppei or Deppei jani. I was told it's a mexican pinesnake.Im just starting to get into bulls and pines, so any info on this will help.
Thanks Mark

Looks like P.deppei deppei to me. From what I can see in the pic that is what I would say it is. I have a pair of those and jani, they are really cool snakes to have and that looks likes like a nice bicolor one.

Thank you. So what would you call them when not using the scientific name?
They are normally refered to as Durango Mountain Pine Snakes. They live on the Sierra Madre Occidental of Northwestern Mexico, where as jani or the Northern Mexican Pine Snake occurs in the Sierra Madre Oriental of Northeastern Mexico. Deppei come in many shades and colors some of which aren't that attractive, but the specimens from the Durango area are some of the more beautiful ones, which is why most of the deppei seen in the hobby are of Durango descent. Here are a couple pics of mine.

This clears things up for me. Thank you very much.
My first thought would be Deppei Deppei.
I have seen the term " Mexican pinesnake " used for both deppei, and jani, so I do completely understand the confusion.

I would call that Deppei Keeper. Nice Pine!
Thanks, I really dig these snakes, esp the northern pines. When I was 7 or 8 I was at carnival and there was a guy talking about snakes and he had a big black and white northern pine. Finally 22 years later i'm starting to get into them and bulls. I still love my corns, but the pits just have that something special about them.

I agree! I was so heavily into kings and milks back in the nineties, but man, when I got my first pits, it was like some light bulb in my head went off, and it was like, " this is what you really like!! "
And northern pines and deppei deppei ARE among my all time favorite snakes.

It's weird that many more people are not big into them. You do see alot of bulls, but not pines. I'm waiting for the end of April to go to the Hamburg, PA expo, hopefully I can find some nice snakes.
