HI, i'm new to this forum. I was interested in gettin a uromastyx, but i don't really know the care for them. Any information would be helpful. My questions were; Lighting, Basking, Temps, Food, Cage size, Substrate, and if they are tame. Thanks so much.

Mike.

Lighting- this is kinda controversial, but i believe that it is important to have a uvb bulb. i mean it can hurt. so you need a UVB bulb for uros.
Basking- Basking site has to reach 120-130 degrees, this is quite easy to do if you put a slate rock right under your basking bulb. i use a 150 watt and a 100 watt. But my cage is extremly well ventilated thats why i have to use two. i will probably take away the 100 once we turn on the heat.
Temps- 95-100 warm side 80 ish cool side
Food- I keep mine on a staple diet of dandelion greens and bok choy. then i give some watercress, kale, collard greens, turnip greens sometimes. Also i give wax worms every two weeks, about 3-6 per lizard.
Cage size- 40 gallon breeder(basically a 50 gallon) or more, the more floor space they have the better. i would say at least 3x2 feet is ok.
Substrate-adults it is ok to use sand. young uros paper towels of repti carpet.
Tame- not all uros are tame since 90% are WC. if you want a tame one get a CB mali, they are the most hardy and least expensive, since they are CB readily now. you should read the post below on "how tame is a uro"
Good luck and welcome

Good choice in picking a uro! The info Lauren gave above is all good. For even more info (and please get all the info you can), you can check out www.deerfernfarms.com for some fabulous care information. There's also lots of good stuff here on kingsnake through the caresheets link. If you're planning to get a captive bred uro, best recommended breeders are Doug Dix of Deer Fern Farms and Lindsay Pike of www.urotopia.com.

Good luck! Let us know what you get!
