Baby boa with bulging eye

darkcontinent Apr 01, 2012 06:25 AM

Hey guys,
Just woke up to a litter of baby boas from an albino motley to DH sunglow. 2 of the albino motleys and one normal albino have bulging eyes. Have had many litters of albino boas and this is a 1st for us. I have read it can be due to low gestational temps. Ive been trying to find the remedy but am having no luck. I know I read here before that there is a drop(i believe antibiotic) that we can put in the eye to help it go back to normal. Does anyone know the name so I can call the vet. They eyes work ok its just buggy. Thanks

Terramycin (oxytetracycline hydrochloride)
Antibiotic Opthalmic Ointment with Polymyxin B Sulfate
For animal use only.
Made by pfizer.

Hopefully someone else can chime in with the dosage and application info. I believe it's supposed to be applied topically directly to the eye once or twice a day. Best of luck with you boas. A have provided a link to the exact product at the bottom of the page.

Hello,

Yes, terramycin should help! It's specifically made for animal's( dogs and horses, Ive been told) eyes and works well with reptiles too. I had to use it last year for an Albino and a Sunglow from the same litter. One thing I would say is start using it as fast as possible tho! You can find it on Amazon ( hope it's not against the rules to say that?!) But that's where I got it and it shipped quick. Cheap and worth keeping on hand!! Good luck with your animals! Always wondered why that happened too, only one litter out of 5 had any issues... any who
,congrats on the rest of your babies!

Thanks James,
We are hoping for some good results. Luckily I had a tube of a triple antibiotic from when our dog had an eye issue. Been applying it since yesterday afternoon.
