IF YOU HAVE A DISHWASHER THEY ARE GREAT PLACES TO HIDE UNDER DUE TO THE PULLOUT FUNCTION. I HAD OCCASION TO CATCH A GREY RATSNAKE FROM A EMPTY, UNFURNISHED APARTMENT A FEW YEARS AGO AFTER A TENANT SAW IT DISAPPEAR UNDER THE ENTRY DOOR. I DETACHED THE WASHER AND PULLED IT AWAY, AND NOTICED A SMALL HOLE LEADING INTO A SPACE BENEATH A CABINENT. AFTER PEEKING IN TO CONFIRM IT WASN'T SOMEONE'S WAYWARD COBRA I HAD TO USE A HOLE SAW TO GET AT THE SNAKE WITH A HOOK. REFRIGERATORS OFFER WARMTH AND DARKNESS AS WELL. KEEP TOILET LIDS DOWN, AND PLUG ANY SINK DRAINS THAT LACK BLOCKING GRID DEPENDING ON SIZE OF SNAKE. YEARS AGO I HAD A BOA GO DOWN INTO MY TOILET MUCH TO MY CHAGRIN. I UNBOLTED THE TOILET AND PULLED IT AWAY, REVEALING MS BOA. SHE OF COURSE HEADED DOWN! I WENT OUT TO THE CLEAN-OUT ACCESS AND PUSHED RAG COVERED STICK IN SO SHE COULDN'T GET INTO THE SEPTIC TANK. THAT THRILLED MY MOTHER (THIS WAS IN EARLY '70'S) WHO COULDN'T FLUSH HER OWN TOILET. DAYS LATER I CLIMBED ON THE ROOF AND LOOKING DOWN INTO THE VENT PIPE REVEALED HER SEVERAL FEET DOWN. AFTER PLUGGING ALL SINK DRAINS, TOILETS ETC I FILLED THE WHOLE SYSTEM WITH WATER FROM A GARDEN HOUSE AND UP SHE CAME i'LL DEDICATE THAT STORY TO BILLY! GOOD LUCK

My friend who has one of my baby jani lost her twice and recovered against all odds. First time was in her house in Seattle...an older house with heat vents and about a thousand other places that couldn't feasibly be checked. She turned up sitting on a cell phone charger about 2 weeks later. Second time, the little one escaped in my friend's office at her lab (luckily a herpetology lab). Was missing for over a month. Snake turned up at her office mate's house. She had found her way into his bike gear, and hitched a ride across town. Hopefully my friend has learned her lesson about secure cages and small snakes by now.

Don't lose hope.
