My breeding season so far!!

joshhutto Apr 01, 2012 09:16 PM

no pics uploaded but so far this is how my season is going and honestly I couldn't ask for any better. A little background as to why I am so happy with how this season is going. I moved from south Florida to S. Carolina in 2010 and had a horrible season with egg production (my guess was the move in December). The upside was that I was going to have a bunch of morph females that were going to be huge for the next season. Well wouldn't you know it, I had a thermostat failure and killed off 3 racks of breeder morph females. I was CRUSHED to say the least and almost sold off the remainder animals. Thankfully a good friend of mine Jay Miller talked me into keeping the animals and his excitement of producing awesome animals got my fire burning again. I have added a few more animals and held back all my morph females that I was able to produce last season and the future is looking bright. With all that said this is how this season is working out all locks or laid/ready to lay:

pied x albino = already laid 7 good eggs
pied x het pied (3 breedings with good folicle growth)
lesser x granite = 8 eggs palpated and she has shed
firefly x vanilla = 5 eggs palpated and she has shed
super vanilla x pastel (2 breedings)
super vanilla x yb
pastel yb x dinker female (looks specter-ish)
pastel yb x pastel
pied x black pastel het pied
albino x het albino (x 2)
enchi x normal (x 2)
enchi x yb
mystic x spider
mystic x mojave

I also have a specter male (from Jay Miller) that is 328g today that I am saving a female yb for. Hopefully he does something. And a male fire bumblebee that is 312g that I'm saving a vanilla pastel for as well. Who knows maybe they will do something in may or june. I hope everyone else is having a good year and hatches out some more crazy things.

I'm sorry for your loss, and glad you didn't quit. It is obvious from your posts that you really enjoy all of this.

But, I have to ask you to explain what happened with the t-stat? I can't hardly imagine either extreme of a failure causing death. If it quit, I wouldn't think the ambient would be that low, and if the t-stat stuck wide open, I would think they could move from the heat. Was it a t-stat that controlled a room heater?

I don't want to drag you through it again, but hopefully we can all learn a valuable lesson. I have already shut off all of my heat cables and flex watt and rely on ambient temps because of the recent fires. I don't like to do it this way and hope to go back to using the belly heat once I figure out how to use some electrical safety devices to prevent arcs and possible fires.
Good Luck Josh

Josh,

Sorry about your accident! Way to "get back on the horse" though! Keep on breedin' and remember: Vanilla, Vanilla, Vanilla!
