Kerby...Casper Vs. Blizzard

Jlassiter Apr 04, 2012 07:21 PM

Is there any visual differences between an albino ghost (casper) and a blizzard california king?

Can you explain the genetic differences?

I take it a Casper is a double homozygot ghost and amel.
But the "ghost" is not the normal double homozygous ghost we know as amel and anery. The ghost in the mix is itself a single recessive gene, correct?

So what is a blizzard?
Is it an amel hypermel unicolor?

A good topic about some amazing snakes. I really like the hypo ghost, they are my favorites. Can you post some updated pics of them as well Kerby?

A Ghost in Cal Kings is a single recessive gene.

A Blizzard is showing both hypermelanistic and albino at the same time.

A Casper is showing both Ghost and albino at the same time.

And, no you can't tell the difference once they are older.

Can you show pics of hatchlings and describe the visual differences?

I wonder if "ghost" is just a type of hypomelanism?
What do you think?

The Ghost cal king can be labeled anything. Hypo or hyper, but it is not compatible with the Mendota/Davis/Baja hypermelanistic gene, that I know for sure. The Ghost is also not compatible with hypo or any other recessive gene that I am aware of.

I agree we can label it what we want...I don't dislike Ghost, I was just wanting clarification on the gene and you certainly helped me out.

Thanks for the information Kerby.
