female ghost corn died - suggestions?

toppy Oct 04, 2003 08:31 AM

I recently aquired 3 ghost corns 2 females and 1 male. the one female was larger than the other, she was about 37in and of healthy body mass. The other was always smaller and dident seem to eat as well as the larger one did. the smaller female dident exhbit any symptoms except her refusal to eat for about the last 3 1/2 weeks. no significant weight loss no weezing or salavating maybe a little less active but not much. then yesterday I goto see if shes ready to eat figuring she may be automatically starting to brumate even though her cage temps are 82 hot and 72 cold, and shes dead - looks healthy mouth eyes and body but dead?
any thoughts - Ive disinfected the other 2 tubs of the rack - they are housed seperate but same rack, with bleach water and replaced the other 2 snakes bedding and they just ate a mouse a peace last friday so they look healthy but I,m still concerned
If anyone has any similar stories Id like any advice I can get.
Thanks Chris

necropsy on the dead snake by a vet would determine why it died.

My Female Ghost Spoody died unexpectedly too. She ate a rat pup at 5pm and at 8pm lunged out of her hide box with her mouth wide open. She gaped and writhed for 10 minutes and died.

I had my Vet perform a necropsy. He found a huge mass of infected follicles which had leaked into her abdominal cavity. She became septic and that is what killed her.

I never even knew she was sick. They hide it very well.
