Breeding Activity - Cherry Co., NE Pales

SunHerp Apr 04, 2012 11:35 PM

Things have been SUPER busy around here, but I've managed to pair up quite a few animals so far this year. Here is one pair of Cherry Co., NE Pale Milks that I caught "in action" while dinner was cooking this evening. All of the trashing in the tub (hence the aspen in the water bowl) caught my attention and a reached for the camera. They're truly glorious looking animals and the photo really doesn't do them justice. Though I'm (finally) using a new camera, the photos were taken quickly and in less than optimal lighting so as not to disturb the love birds. The male in this pair is quite a bit smaller than the female (like 1/3 her size), so despite his best efforts, if she gets spooked he's along for the ride!

And a little closer:

Yes I'm sure that photo doesn't do them justice but it's still apparent they're great looking animals... one of these days, either from you or Dell.

Awesome Cole. Good luck with the eggs bro. I hope to see you guys in several weeks, but I think our groups are going to miss each other by a few days.

Unfortunately, you're right. I have to back home the day you guys are arriving! How lame is that?! Maybe next year?

After the first day I paired snakes together this year I realized the water bowl needs to come out first, lol. Sometimes the females put up so much of a fight I question why the males keeps trying. Congrats on the breedings, this time of year is definitely awesome... For the next 6 months then it's back to boredom.

Oh yeah, they sure can thrash about, can't they?! I used to take them out, I've gotten to where I just leave the water bowls in and change them daily. Sometimes my males will be breeding a given female every time I look in the tub for 3-4 days straight, so I leave the bowls in there to make sure they've got water when needed. The breeding is intermittent, obviously, since they're in different locations most of the time, but it must be happening a LOT for me to see it 4 or even 5 times in a day for several days running! Studs!

They're some of the cleanest animals I've ever seen. Thanks for the kind words, too!
