Do it yourself Fecals?

quickbeam Oct 04, 2003 09:16 AM

Hi all,

With so many knowledgable breeders and owners on this forum I'm guessing that some of you are doing your own fecal checks for parasites.
I was hoping some of you might share some info on this. Questions that come to mind are:

What power microscope are you using?

How do you prep your slides?

What methods are used other than microscopic examination?

How often do you check fecals?

Any online resources for info on recognizing parasites through a microscope? Pics for identifying common parasites?

I'm sure there are others that I am not thinking of this second. Any links to online guides on this would be great.

I'm fortunate to have a vet that often does not even charge for the exam but it's still a hassle sometimes to have to run over the sample.

Most of your questions can be found in this book:

Understanding Reptile Parasites: A Basic Manual for Herpetoculturists & Veterinarians, by Roger Klingenberg

you can find it on Amazon.
