House Insurance

xrayeric1993 Apr 13, 2012 05:40 PM

After receiving my auto and home owners insurance renewal bill, I decided that my rates were too high. Please keep in mind I have a spotless driving record. In addition, I have never had an auto or a homeowners claim. I contacted my agent to shop around for a better rate with comparable coverage. He found a great rate with Travelers Insurance Company. However, after asking a few questions, the company denied me coverage because I own six ball pythons. A representative from Travelers informed me that a ball python is a dangerous constrictor and a liability. I tried educating their representative to no avail. I'm really concerned with the state of our country today and see no end to our fight to protect responsible reptile owner's rights. Despite this, I will not give up my ball pythons and still hope someday to retire early from my nursing practice and breed snakes. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

We had a similar experience, although they came to the house and did a walk through and only thought I had a few boas...lol...but anyway the report came and they raised the home owners insurance $350 a year more...I asked for them to show me in writing where snakes were a problem...anything and they could not yet they raised rates. Glad I am now renting, and renters insurance seems much more understanding. I rented a farm...have tons of room. I feel your pain...seriously we will never win against the insurance companies. Find other ways around them.

If your homeowners insurance company finds out you have any type of exotic they will drop your coverage...every snake in their mind is considered an exotic...
