I am not sure what sheet moss is. I use orchid moss, or long fibered moss as it is also called. It is soft and clean and the snakes like it for laying eggs and as a moist hide.

Thanks. We have a PetDepot close to us that really sucks. They never get the same moss in or anything for that matter. You order something and it might be a month befor you get it and it might not be the right thing or the right amount.

sheet moss (Hypnum curvifolium), a species of carpet moss. The names sheet moss and carpet moss refer to the growth pattern of the plants, which often form large carpetlike mats on rocks or soil. This species is sometimes used by florists in constructing flower arrangements. Hypnum is a genus in the family Hypnaceae, subclass Bryidae, class Bryopsida, division Bryophyta.

Next time I go to Lowe's I'll check out the sheet moss. Lowe's is were I get my orchid moss. It is about $4.98 for a 190 cu. inch package, rather expensive in my opinion, but it lasts a long time unless they crap in it. The bull snakes just get paper towels because of that. The pyros are much tidier, preferring to poop in the far corners of their cages.

Bob, check these guys out. I order two of these every spring and they last me the entire year, with 150 plus snakes. One bag fills 60 - 65 shoeboxes full of moss. I am sure you won't need that much but it's cheaper than Lowe's.LOL

I compared prices by the gram and the Lowe's is slightly more expensive but not by much. Once you factor in the shipping it is about even. I do like the idea of getting a whole 3 kilos at once, though! Have saved link to my favorites. Thanks!

Do you like the sphagnum-moss over other mosses? Most other moss I have used are long stemmed, long leaf, has more body.. The sphagnum moss is more of a granular, can crumble in you hand to a fine saw dust texture. I think it may hold moisture better like a sponge. Not sure which one I like better. ?? Or which one my snakes like better.

That sounds more like peat moss, which is a type of sphagnum moss. I like the long fibered moss as it doesn't get all over everything. The peat tends to be a powdery mess, and sticks onto things when wet. I use peat moss in gardening applications to improve tilth in soils, but with animals I like something that is cleaner and not prone to turn into powder or dust.
