Tarahumara Mtn Kings

Two of my favorite hold backs from 2010. They will be big enough next year to reproduce. Both of these are possible het hypomelanistic from Osborne line animals. From information gathered this line of hypomelanism is different than Shannon B.'s Candy Cane line. More breeding trials will be needed to prove out that theory. I have both lines, so it'll be a few years to prove it out.

Are these guys similar to pyro's care? I have really been hit hard by these guys, I have to talk to you more about these later.

I actually keep mine, a little warmer than my pyros. I like them best because most babies will take F/T right away. They get a little bigger too. The 2001 male I have is pushing 5 foot and eats retired breeder mice or small rats. In 2010 my 2001 female laid a clutch of 12 and then laid a second clutch of 8. Here's the Candy Cane I got from Shannon.

My females are no way near that big but the males I have 3 over 10yrs old and they are all of 4ft plus. I have noticed though that they only get fed every 10 days or so. Any more than that they slap some weight on. Osborne's animals seem to be the biggest I have seen so far.

John, I sure hope you get some good eggs from her this year. I am going to feel bad about sending her out there if you don't. She did give me good eggs before as you know, so hopefully this is the year. Calcium supplements I think helped out that year, but could have been just good timing with the male too!!

Thanks Joe, they are my favorite of the mountain kings. At least I don't have to worry about the famous "ZD" with these guys. I have contemplated getting some CA Mtn kings, but I will wait a while longer.

I am hoping she will lay some eggs for me this season. Love the variability in each clutch too.

Thanks Doug, the best part is both Hypo lines are actually locale animals. The aberrant line I am working with is also, and I didn't have to cross it with a striped prairie king that I saw in the classifieds a while back.

Really splendid knobs! Especially the male, what with his very even pattern. I almost got into knobs instead of the heavy black cross over pyro thing I've got going now.

Thanks Bob! I think the female(second pic) has a better pattern than the male. The male's blotches/bands end higher up on the sides than the female. Can't wait to see what they will produce....
