Cage Cleaning Time: How Do You Clean ALL THOSE LEAVES?

SaveFerris Oct 04, 2003 11:14 AM

My cham has a *BILLION* leaves in her cage. I spray them with quat plus and wipe off after 10 minutes but theres NO WAY to get EVERY SINGLE LEAF...

Is that a bad way to clean? Is there an easier way?

I don't know what Quat plus is, but I assume you're talking about washing the leaves on the trees or plants. How often are you doing that? Can't you just take out the plants and use a hose and soapy water in a mister? Once you wash down a new plant really good, you shouldn't have to wash it much more since the misting you should be doing every day will keep rinsing the leaves. Maybe I misunderstood the question.

I dont have any real plants yet. Im using quat plus to clean the screen and vines as they get kinda stinky after awhile.

I live in an apartment with no garden hose and it will soon be 30 degrees outside anyway. I guess the only solution is to take the whole cage in the shower with me? lol

If you're adding new plants to tha cage, just wash them really good first, and after that if you need to wash them, get a 5 gallon bucket filled with soapy water and hang the plant upside down in it for 10 minutes. Then rinse it down with clean water to get the soap off. You shouldn't need to do this too often, since the mistings will help keep it clean, but I guess you could use a shower or bathtub for it. Try to control the dirt somehow so you don't clog your drain. Shake loose dirt off outside before putting it in the bathtub. If you're talking about washing the plastic plants, just get rid of them! J/K But I guess do a similar thing, take them out and soak in soapy water and rinse.

This product uses enzymes to break down odor causing germs and grime. You just spray it on the leaves and cage and let it go to work....safe to do it with cham in cage too....you can get it at exoticlizards.com -- or Scales
