Almost Anery?

Jlassiter Apr 15, 2012 06:32 PM

This guy's red has lightened so much he may become anery soon.....
Is that possible? He hatched with red saddles and "turned" hypo-e already....

He already looks light to begin with, or is that normal?

They are both somewhat light comparable to normal mex mex that hatch out with maroon saddles.....
They BOTH are hypoerythristics now......

I'm assuming you know the history of where they came from and this is a total surprise?

Jlassiter Apr 15, 2012 08:48 PM

>>I'm assuming you know the history of where they came from and this is a total surprise?

Actually...
Yes....I know that their parental stock came from 40 miles East of San Luis Potosi City in the state of SLP. (near the Valley of the Ghost)......

Robert Applegate acquired these wild caught mex mex and sold their offspring to a couple of folks I know. Robert never raised any up or line bred them to know that they carried this ontogenetic gene, but others called them light phase mex mex.

Tom Agosta eventually got ahold of some and Shannon Brown got some from him a few years back. Mine came from them. It wasn't a surprise to me....But it was a surprise to those that got their mex mex from Applegate years ago.....

And the gene is acting like it is codominant......should make it a little easier to make a black hypo-e and Ultra granite black Hypo-e.......fingers crossed for the next few generations.....

Wow, that's cool you have all that history on them. And yeah, co dom is so much quicker to get projects on their way. A dark background with light pink saddles will look very nice.

Thanks Ross....I try to investigate provenance on all my mexicana......I can trace nearly all my mexicana back to their original w/c ancestors.......I just wish we could go get some more.....I'm only a few hours away from their habitat....And the Europeans get to take all the want back over the pond......stoopid Lacey Act.....lol
