Need Feeding Help

repcouture Apr 16, 2012 12:46 PM

I cannot get my 2010 Male Pied to eat for some reason. He hasn't eaten since February, although he did just shed and defecate last Monday. I tried feeding after the shed, but he didn't eat. He has been eating f/t mice, but I'm trying to get him switched over to f/t rats. During my last attempt, he smelled the food, crawled over and around it, and never ate. Temp and humidity levels have been stable in the tank during this time.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

Believe it not some Ball Pythons will only eat mice(Stubborn Balls). Being a male I wouldn't be to concerned about switching him over, as long as you have a steady supply of F/T mice. The other thing that could be keeping him from eating is the fact that it is breeding season. Have you introduced him to any females?

Thank you Brian. He is the only one that I have, and has not been introduced to any females. How long does breeding season usually last?

It's that time of year for males. They will stop eating and want to breed.
Completely normal.

Are you trying to feed him rats or mice? If he is a mouser - go ahead and feed him mice until he is back feeding well before trying to switch him to rats.
