WHAT STARTED IT ALL..........

lrdj Apr 17, 2012 09:00 PM

I was going through a pile of good old-Reptile journals and magazines and came across the one article that started all...

Reptiles (April 2004) - "Mini" Boas: Husbandry for the Hog Island and Other Smaller Boas by Vin Russo.

Eight years later and the addiction continues....... It has been a fun and rewarding hobby.

Now to boas.... A few angle from a pretty boa.

Nothing more than a 2007 Belem, Brazil red tail boa. From a good friend.... Steve Hammond.

Thanks for looking!

Very cool!

I can still remember the first time I saw a red blood python. At an educational show oh so many years ago. I remember the owner telling me they would never catch on because they were such evil animals. Then captive breeding started.

I remember the same thing about Retics because of the temperaments of wild caughts and Ball Pythons because of their difficult feeding habits. I was working in a pet shop an we’d get in loads of Ball Pythons loaded with internal and external parasites-even ticks! Of course we had to force feed and they never did well. They’d sell for $29.99. Now, you can get a perfect little CB normal Ball for way less and have an enjoyable experience with them.
Again, once captive breeding started, everything changed.

The Reptiles Magazine that article that really changed things for me was Jeff Ronne’s Boa Breeding Article. I produced my first litter that year just after the article had come out and the female that gave me the babies must have read it because she followed the schedule perfectly!

Neat post! Thanks for posting!
