Wierd slug/worm crawling on the side of my tank!

rc_racer_007 Oct 04, 2003 12:40 PM

i dont know if i should be worried or not, probibly not. But i saw this 1/2" long slug/worm type creature crawling on the side of my tank. it was a little over 1/4" long and red with a white portion that was a little less then 1/4" which i assum was its head or one large single antenna.

Should i be alarmed. i took a picture but it isnt even worth posting.

Had them for months and they haven't done any damage yet. Once in a while one of the frogs will lick one but not eat it, not sure why, maybe he's just getting high licking worms.

If it's what I think it is, it's a flatworm. Does it look similiar to a leech? I had these in my Golden tank once, and they were eating eggs. If it is, I'd tear down the tank and kill them all. The wayI got rid of them was to just take out all the plants, moss, frogs, decor, etc. until nothing was left but substrate and the false bottom, and poured steaming water in it. Killed all of them.

They are probably nematodes, they climb the side of the glass and wave the antenna looking thing around in search of food. They eat fruitflys, they are harmless although they look gross. Never had any bother my eggs or frogs, I usually go in at night after a misting and clean them off the glass with a small piece of tissue paper, they squash real easy. Never been able to get rid of them.
