one slug so far...

chefdev Apr 20, 2012 04:11 PM

Had a hunch my albino Cal king was going to drop today... made a laybox and went to work. Just got home and there was one slug laying in the middle of the cage and she seemed to be roaming looking around still. I placed her in the laynox and locked her in. Thinking this may just stress her out but she seemed stressed already...

I have found some will drop one or two slugs before laying the rest of a good clutch. When did she have her pre-lay shed?

Its been about 10 days... I have my doubts I saw lots of cuddling but no actual hook ups. Not to say it didn't happen the other 23 hours I wasn't watching them.... how long after did they drop? By the way how is the albino Nelson? Any luck with her?

I honestly thought it was her post brumation shed because she never had one. Her behaviors Led me to believe she was going to drop this morning. She is not that big for her age or size. I really wasn't expecting this.

t might be worth putting some moist spagnum on one end of the enclosier, if she is not settling into the box. I have a Honduran who keeps laying behind the nest box. So I laid some moist spagnum back there, and I'm pretty sure that's where she is going to lay her clutch. If she hasn't laid in a couple days, I would start getting nervous. Good luck!

She's good, I haven't witnessed any hook ups yet but we'll see. I brought my stuff out late this year.

I would recommend putting a lay box in when she is going through her prelay shed. I but mine in after I see a hook up or right before her prelay shed. That way she has time to search out a good spot and make a nice little nest.
Just a thought

Its a good thought... again I wasn't expecting this to happen so soon. I let her out of the laybox. She is just chilling in her hotspot now. Any guesses as to when she will drop the rest?

Sorry, didn't see the post above before I answered. From my experiences they usually lay the rest with in a day or two. Anything after 5 I may start to get concerned. Mine usually lay 5-7 days after shed. Last year almost all my females laid on day 7 after shed.

Still just one more last night... this one was a good size nice Color but very limp and half filled. I have very low hopes at this point.
