OT... Policeman down!

joshhutto Apr 21, 2012 05:33 AM

My brother, James Hutto who has been a police officer for the town of Barnwell SC for 12 yrs was critically injured this morning when his patrol car was struck by a drunk driver while he was assisting some run-a-way juveniles. His car then hit him and he was thrown 30-50 feet and landed on his head. At this time he is in surgery and has an unknown prognosis for a severe head injury. Please join my family and friends with praying for him. He risks his life for the public. I will give updates as they come.

James was in surgery for 3 hours. They repaired a severe skull fracture and were able to stop all bleeding in his brain. He was responding to pain immediately after getting to the trauma icu. He has had a repeat ct scan and still no new bleeding in the brain is noted and he moves both legs and arms when you talk to him. He is still in critical condition and being a er nurse it's hard to not get over excited about some of these things but they all are good. Please if you have been praying for his recover, continue to do so. His wife and 3 kids need all the help they can get to bring my brother home.

that's a horrible thing, sorry josh. a few months back my sister's van was overturned in an intersection by an idiot texting who was too preoccupied to notice he had a red light. she was lucky and came out ok.

i hope for your brothers recovery.

I come from a family of police officers, one of whom was shot in the line of duty. The doctors did not hold any hope for him, but he surpassed everyone's expectations. I'm sure by now there are prayers being said around the world for your brother, and I trust the whole herp community is sending positive energy to your brother and his family.
