I was wondering how much i should expect to pay for a tangerine carrot tail leo...
thanks
This one that i am looking at is a female, six months of age, 20% carrot tail, tangerine.... no specification as to hypo or super hypo.... 45 grams... Im not very informed on this kind of stuff.... shes going for less than i would have expected. Im just trying to decide if i should get her or not, but for the price i dont believe i can turn it down. Its my first leo. I keep an AFT right now.
thanks
Hypo is generally considered to mean 10 or fewer spots on the back between the head and tail whereas Super Hypo means no spots between. Baldy means that there are no spots on the head, or at least no black spots.
Be careful what and from whom you're buying. It's 6 months and 45g, which doesn't sound unhealthy, but if it's a price that's too good to be true, it just may be. Sometimes people will sell nicer geckos because they're not a 'big name' in the business, which is alright, but be sure you get references if you've never heard of the purchaser. Ask about the parents, what they look like, where they're from, etc. Quite honestly, there's a whole lot of crap being put up for sale on the classifieds, so you need to do some research on whether you're getting what you think it is or just a normal with some more orange on its tail than average. Basically, just do your homework before laying down any $ because if the gecko's got problems, you may end up paying more in vet bills than a 'regular' priced high end animal.
Good luck and let's see pics when you get your first one

The gecko is coming from USA geckos. It is posted on the classifieds forum... shes going for 65 dollars shipped. (listed for 30, shipped for 30-40) I hope i dont regret this... i hope no one else picks her up before i do. i dont know much about them, but it seems like a deal. The ad says she is flawless in health and condition.
to me she looks nice. is it possible that she is just a tangerine carrot tail... no hypo or anything like that and thats why shes a good price?
thanks for the info guys... i appreciate it
its not like im looking for this amazingly high quality gecko.. Im a college student with not so much money to drop on something thats high end. I think she looks pretty and thats pretty much that.
Jeanne seems like a very nice person who wouldn't steer you wrong. The price seems very reasonable for that gecko. She'd probably be called 'reduced spotting' instead of hypo, but as long as the gecko is healthy, it only really matters what you think of her, not what we or others want to call her.
Good luck and post pics when you get her.

I agree, she is a very nice looking gecko, I don't think I would classify her as a carrot tail, and I'm not seeing a lot of tangerine, but that is an excellent price and a good looking gecko. I think you will be very happy with her. Keep us updated , and if you have any questions feel free to post, or drop me an e-mail.

Kelli has some really nice ones and the price is pretty nice as well. Not sure if she has any left for this year. As far as "big" names and such. Many people out there have the same stock as some of the bigger guys and offer quality animals at substantial savings. One thing though. Make sure you see some plenty of pictures of the animals you plan on buying. Personally I like crisp clear pics. If its fuzzy or the color looks off beware!!!!! Also usually a picture out in natural sunlight or bright indoor lighting will give you a good idea of the color of the animal. Another thing I watch out for is leopards on bright blue backgrounds. In art class one of the first things you learn about is complementary colors. Blues bring out oranges just like lavender brings out yellow. They complement each other! Just my opinion hope it helps!

I paid $75 for sunshine. This is her a few months after I got her. She was 35grams when we got her at the San Diego show in June.

We got his lovely girl from SF Geckos. Only paid I believe $100 for her at the Petuluma show a few weeks ago and she was 63 grams.

Then we bought starburst from Geckos by Design for $200, but she is huge and a lot prettier in person.

Ask For a picture to be taken on newspaper.... we all know what color newspaper is... and It's very easy to tell when the color has been tampered with.

I keep 2 of my females on bright blue backgrounds, shop towels from Canadian Tire
They do look much brighter on them compared to the regular paper towels I had been using. These are so much softer but more heavy duty than regular ones, but at 3 bucks a roll its a bit more pricey.
I totally agree with you about people selling leos on blue backgrounds though, even though its the same animal, it will look much better on it and its not really that fair to an unsuspecting buyer.
