Help with hibernation

andey Oct 04, 2003 01:28 PM

starting a diamondback breeding prog. My friend is skeptical about my hibernation techniques. Normally I put the heat and light on a timer and time it with the sunset and sunrise, reduce food eventually to none, turn off the heat, hydrate and let them burrow. I've never hibernated C. Atrox before, though I've hibernated lots of other herps. Please tell me if I should do anything especially different from other snakes. Thanks

Cool them as you would any other. Sounds like you are on track.

I put mine in a refrigerator for 3 months at 60 degrees. It worked great. I put them in form Dec 1 to March 1. They started breeding 2 weeks later and produced babies in July.
