Wort Oct 04, 2003 01:46 PM

Hello I just bought my first gecko, a central american banded gecko. Its about 3 inches with tail so im guessing its pretty young. It has not eatin anything in the past 2 days. Does anyone have any adive to get this guy eating? I really would aprecciate ant adive.

If it has only been 2 days, do not worry. Geckos stress easy and tend to not eat for the first couple of days. After 5 days or so let us know. They usually start at day 3 or 4. Just make sure it has water and you can also spray it directly to pretty much force it to lick water off its eyes (not the best way as they hate that).

Thank you, yes it has 2 water bowls to choose from, big 55 gallon tank with a 3 inch lizard. I dont think it has seen the entire tank yet . Ive misted the sides of the tank and it once but it didnt like that, as you said. Thanks again.

Yeah give it time especially in such a huge tank for its size. Make sure you dont have too much stuff in it so it can find the food.

Well it is planted and has moss and lots of cover so if it doesnt find any I might put him in a critter keeper with a cricket or 2 if i have too.

Yeah the moss is like the number one hiding spot for crickets. I used to have moss in my tank and took it out. yes it looks nice and natural but its hell since you find like 10 crickets under there each time. And its not even the issue that my gecko cant find them, its the fact that they die under there and cause sanitary issues. Be wary if you use moss.

I find that rubbermaid shose boxs contaires work best for these guys, helps up the humidity which they love and it's dark being nocturnal this helps them feel safe, they dont like to big of space as they tend just to hide the whole time. Mine eat out of a little dish of mealworms but scenes yours is a little guy i'd keep with crikets.
