I'm pretty sure that was the glow...

Seeves1982 Apr 24, 2012 08:26 PM

Anyhow incase anyone was interested. I'm pretty sure this picture of my normal was a picture of her glow.

This picture was taken tonight which I'm pretty sure is the picture of her 2nd ovulation.

The picture isn't that great cause it was taken with my iphone, but it shows her normal coloring and it doesn't look as prominant in the picture as it does in real life, but right around 7 o' clock to 2 o' clock she looks plump. If I'm right and this is the second ovulation swell then I should be seeing a shed here in a few days and be able to mark 30 days to egg laying right?

Thanks for the help

2nd ovulation?????? Not sure what you mean by this.

But that second picture is defeinitely an ovulation and you should be seeing a shed in 2-3 weeks. Then you'll start the 30 day countdown.

Yeah I probably did state that wrong. My friend said that there's two swells that you'll see. I just missed the first I thought. He said on the second that she would look like she swallowed a rabbit. I guess the first is not an ovulation. I guess it would be when the follicles form. I've read the process over and over. Nothing like actually seeing it happen. I'd imagine with time it'll be second nature, but for now I'm just feeling everything out.

there is actually no such thing....
just to clarify....the first swelling is creating follicles...itty bitty cell sized follicles....the second swelling along with the glow...is ovulation....chicken egg and bigger sized ovum that drop from the ovaries at this time,,,pick up sperm and become fertile, then line up all in nice rows in the oviducts...where they continue to grow for about 30 more days....whereas they are then deposited on the cage floor...no matter how much cool bedding you gave them.,...then afterwards...we find them and yell....wheeeeeeeee.....then put them into an incubator...which freaks out the females and makes them cry like babies for a week or more of lonliness and heartbreak.....

or ot make it simpler...

yes...that is the glow again....30 days....!!! Yea....

good luck.....!!!have fun

I'm breeding the male that I breed to this female with another female. The other female isn't showing any signs yet. Should I consider this female done and stop wasting my time putting the male in with her and focus on the other one or would it still be worth it to keep putting the male in with this female?

If you cooled her and him and you have been trying for months and you don't feel anything in her but she is still at good weight then yes keep offering him to her but you might want to offer food to her as well...BP's can and do produce eggs 6 to 8 months after a cool down...they can breed year round...

It might have come out wrong. I wasn't meaning with the other (non-showing snake) I have all intentions of continuing to introduce those two together. My question I guess is the snake that's ovulating. Is she done and since I have another snake I want bred by the same male would it be better to introduce the male to the non ovulating snake more often or should I continue to introduce the male to both females? Also you were mentioning. Cooling them down? What do you mean? I've never read about that. Is it beneficial to give the breeding snakes an extended break? And how long do you recommend?

There was a recent thread on another site about females being bred after - and even during - ovulation. It happens, but it's not "productive". There's no point putting your male back in with her, and you may just stress her out.
