Bearded Baby acting out male mating Behavior???

ISH Oct 04, 2003 02:03 PM

I bred two of my sisters BDs and then incubated her clutch and ended up with 8 healthy bearded babies. Two of which she gave to me and then sold the rest. I'm raising the 2 babies, who are 3 months old now, in 10 gallon tank until they get a little bigger. I'm not sure if this is accurate but I believe one is male and the other female. The reason I believe this is because I observed one BD doing his male mating dance and chasing the other around. Am I right in my assumption or is this just lizard behavior before they mature. Has anyone else noticed this behavior and then ended up with a male?? Well your comments and questions are welcome anytime.

Hi
headbobbing chasing the other one and biting neck r mating behavour.
waving in return and make a headbob slow toward the ground is female behavour.
two beardies circling around each other biting in tail is most of time 2 males.
but i saw here also the lady wanna do it when they not wanna be bother by mellow yellow.
if the male is bussy whole the time and not leave the beardie alone then you must separete them .

and they should be separated. If one is chasing and one is running at that age, someone is not happy.

Waving, bobbing and other gestures are social gestures for all beardies of all ages, not just mature ones for mating or certain sexes.

You can not tell sex from gestures, we had one and EVA, who hatched it can verify... this one was a waving fool.... it waved at everything, me, other dragons, crickets, worms its overhead light.... everything and often..... at five months we knew it was a male. We all thought for sure it was a female!

On the other hand we have a female that head bobs at all the other females and puffs up her beard.... you can not tell that way.

My female never waved at all. SHe head bobbed once or twice in response from me waving at her but that's it. Then again I thought she was male from the time i bought her till she was about 6 months old when I decided to check again.

At three months it is probably best to separate both your dragons into bigger cages till you know for sure what sex they are and only put them back together in their larger adult cage if they are both females and are getting along.
