EEHH! I had a little male jacksonii that died 9 days later after he started closing his eyes. Don't keep him too warm, keep him cool. Heat will actually kill them. Keep him in a greenhouse-type enclosure. Uhhmm. All I can really think of is to keep him humid and cool. That's about it. Make sure his basking spot isn't close to the lamp.

How do you have him caged?

Neonate jacksonii are VERY VERY sensitive to supplementation. They say you shouldn't even supplement them at all until they are about 4 months old. Gutloading is the only way he should be getting his nutrients.

Hi-

Jackson babies are not stable until at least 3 months of age. Most pet shops and breeders will not buy the babies under this age because of this. Jackson's are a monate species, so they will prefer lower temps and higher humidity. With babies it is best to keep them on the cooler side of the temp range, and keep up the humidity. I would be careful about over misting, over heating, and over supplementing with him. Make sure you are not misting so much that a pool of water collects in the bottom of the tank, and you allow a dry time between misting. This will lower your chances of him getting a URI. Feed a mix of fruit files and pinheads. Make sure you gut load the pinheads with a high quality gutload not chicken feed! Keep handling to a minimal. If he is closing his eyes while the lights are on that is not a good sign, and would lead me to think he is being over supplemented. Best of luck!

Thats what i thought! When i got him, in his cage, there was white powder everywhere!!! How do i get his eyes to open? How do i feed him? If he cant see he cant eat right?? Thanx for your reply!!!

Hi-

Well as bad as this might sound, if he is not eating and already having eye and food issues things don't look good. Just as a note NEVER buy a chameleon with eye issues. Is it both eyes or just the right eye? With him being so young, there is not much you can do. I would try contacting the store or breeder you got the chameleon from and find out how they were being cared for and explain the eye issues and ask for a replacement that dose not have eye issues. Best of luck!

He certainly sounds sick, I would put him outside in a birdcage or on a small potted tree in a bucket with half shade and half sun during the day, this does wonders. Mist him several times a day with a spray bottle so he can drink the water that forms on his lips. His cage shouldnt get above 80degrees during the day and not under 45 at night since he is sick, 72degrees ambiant temperature with a warmer(80's)basking area would be perfect. Might I ask where you got him? surely not a pet shop....

Pet store...It's too late..He died when i got back from the pet store..I was very upset! My mom is letting me get a veiled chameleon from Tropicalchameleons.com Check it out and tell me if that is a good place to get one from. I dont want the next to be sick!

Thanks

It's really not your fault, that is WAY too young to be selling a baby cham to an inexperienced keeper. Do lots and lots of research before you get another of any kind, that is step one.
