Tank for baby AFTs

AFTgeckoGUY Oct 04, 2003 03:53 PM

Does anyone think that a 40 gal "breeder" (long and wide, not tall) tank is too big for three or four baby African fat tail geckos? Any input would be great. Thanks.

i personally prefer a small inclosure for the babies. They have less searching to do for finding food and seem to grow faster. Then when they outgrow the small enclosure I move them to the larger tanks. I start my baby Fat tails in shoe box containers on a heat strip on the shelf and then move them to a 5 gal. tank with an UTH. No subtrate other than paper towels till they are at least 1 year old. For a humid hide i get a small disposable plastic container and cut a hole in the lid. Use a damp paper towel in the humid hide. THe love it!!! When they are older I use pete moss in the humid hide. Its easier to digest and no strings like the bed a beast stuff. I used to use that but ended up having to pull long strings of the coconut bark stuff out of their mouths. They would spend hours rubbing on things to get it out of their mouth.
Good luck. Nothing beats a fat tail baby

I have to agree that a smaller enclosure would be much better for baby AFT's. The 40 breeder will be awesome for them when they are adults but right now, you need to put them in shoeboxes.
