What to do with Neo's?

DONTshoot May 04, 2012 12:31 PM

Hello all, I have my first litter due later this month and I am super excited. I was wondering what you all do to accommodate the neonates? This is what I was planning to do.
1. Remove mother, clean her and set her up in a new separate cage.
2. Maintain all newborns in the boaphile where they were born.
3. Mist heavily
4. Make sure the hot spot is near 90
5. Provide clean water bowl.

I was thinking they'd last in there a couple of days until they were clean. Maybe all the way until their first shed.
I know many of you remove neonates and place them on wet paper towels...
What feedback can you provide?
Thanks
Ruben

I like to remove them put them in a container that can accommodate all or a portion of them depending on litter size & container size.
The container has aspen in it I keep them at a high ambient temp with very high humidity for their first week of life.

If they have yolk belies I try to bump up that ambient temp a little bit more over 90*.
I believe it will increase metabolism but I'm still in the speculation phase of that theory personally but,
when talking to more experienced keepers then myself they always suggest keeping ambient at or above 88* F . . .
for yolk bellies with high humidity like an incubator is the way I look at it or mothers belly.
