baby Banana California Kingsnake

banana Oct 04, 2003 04:08 PM

Hey, I just had a question for everybody... I have a baby california kingsnake that I bought about two months ago, and now it's about 4 months old. I've been trying to hold it for a while, but it hates being touched or even looked at. I actually was about to hold it today for 10 minutes without it even striking at me. Is this normal for california kingsnakes, and will it really grow out of this stage? Please help me!

YES, but you have to remember that the folksplace you got it from most likely never handled the snake except to torture it by
"piping" it or probing for sex and if they’re where any feeding issues, etc. etc. ect. You have to work with them, they will
Grow out of it, now you will always hear the stories of that snake that would not come around but those are "freaks" or abnormal, i have one right now that has quite a temper, it's about 4 months and also a banana male - i hold him extra! About 30 minutes a day ----and he's getting better and better every day
Also if they musk you or strike at you or even bite don't let that deter you! Still pick them up show them that that will not work with you and you are not only the BOSS but harmless.....
Peace and chicken grease

Pick up the baby kingsnake, put it in your hand, now go to the bathroom and hold the snake so that you can see both you and the snake in the mirror. Do you notice that you are very different looking and very very large, compared to the snake. With that in mind, do you blame the snake for having lots of fear.

As the snake grows and if you know how to hold a snake properly, it will surely get over its fear of giants. Remember, its natural instints. F

Thanks guys! This is my first snake, and I LOVE them so much that I didn't want my first one to be the devil. I appreciate your comments!
