MY NEW HUGE NILE CAGE.

flyingNILE May 27, 2003 11:09 AM

It's here!!!! My Ornate's new mansion! It is a Cages By Design cage. I highly recommend Cages By Design. I was leary at first but I went ahead and made the purchase anyway. The cage looks better than any cage I've ever saw- looks good in a living room even. It holds it's heat like a champ. It can be broken down for easy transportation. I love this enclosure! 8' x 4' x 5' ! - Like a Niles cage should be!

was dubious as to whether it would be big enough to hold an adult nile,it's going to be 10x3 then it angles off at 45degs to be 6x2then back in to the 10x3,so i guess if 8x5x5 is good then mines should be as well.Nice cage, but i can't get them here

Sounds big enough to me. How's the reptile scene in europe?

skyliner May 27, 2003 01:21 PM

doing great, catching up on the americans even, but here in scotland it's going backwards,i think its not enough education and to many scary movies with "dragons" and "serpents" but i'll keep my head up and try and keep on breeding anyway. Thanks for asking anyway.

wheres the dirt. they need dirt to be the way a niles cage should be

flyingNILE May 27, 2003 12:25 PM

There's a 6 inch depth behind the logs, gecko man.

NagyReptiles May 27, 2003 12:21 PM

Wow that looks sweet I'm sure he's gonna love it.

geckoreptilian May 27, 2003 12:52 PM

In 6 inches my V. auffenbergi can hardly dig a burrow.

audri May 27, 2003 03:12 PM

And aren't you worried about the monitor clawing the sides and scratching it? Or did you get glass?

3/8" thick. I've seen others with the acrylic and they've been fine. The niles claws are not causing any scratches, he's been pawing at it for a week too. If you took a baseball bat to the acrylic you would have a hard time shattering it - honestly. bye

Definitly awsome, too bad im poor. I will have to build mine, which, if i get the new place that i want, will be 8x8x8, so that i can walk in, if need be, and can be easily constructed by 4x8 sheets of plywood. My enclosure will be getting done sometime around christmas. If i dont get the place i want, I will probably have to go a bit smaller, 8x4x4. not necessarily what i want, but what i can have. O well, I know your nile will be happy in that cage.

Do you have a Nile Truth?

Da Truth May 28, 2003 03:24 PM

Hes about 30 inches.

flyingNILE May 29, 2003 09:27 AM

Cool, my Ornate is 30" too.

Don't get me wrong, that's a great looking cage. But... It wont hold any quantity of dirt. Maybe you can put a board across the front, to make a barrier to hold the dirt in.

It really does need more substrate especially if your wanting to breed them.

But the monitor would be happy with some nice dirt to dig into. Maybe try offering a large nest box or large tub of dirt in the cage might work. I would certainly offer it more then a 6 inch pile.

other then that the cage looks nice just not fully geared towards a monitors needs.
