Drinking

steve4465 Oct 04, 2003 04:35 PM

I was wondering is there any other way for a beardie to drink water than besides dripping water on there head, because this is the only thing holding me back from getting a beardie as my first lizard.

Some beardies will drink from a shallow water dish, but my beardie doesn't and he wont even drink if i drip it on his head, but they can get enough water from there veggies and he eats all them and i mist him everyday, and hes in good shape

Thats the only thing? That is probably the easiest part about owning a beardie. If you're not willing to drip a couple drops of water on his head once a day, then are you going to be willing to fish around in a tank full of crickets a few times a day in order to feed him, or cut up fresh fruits and veggies every morning so that he gets his vitamins? The water thing really is no big deal, you can just mist them with a spritz bottle. But like I said, there are a lot more difficult aspects of owning one of these guys!!

Neat trick (nothing new to the old timers) is to place the bearded in a shallow pan of water (not deep- only about shoulder high) and run a little water into it from a faucet. The motion of the water will often inspire them to drink.
Lots of people don't give their dragons any water other than in the form of veggies. My dragons get lots of veggies and drink copious amounts of water.
Hope this helps.

If the dragon's crickets are gutloaded and his greens fresh, most dragon's don't need any more water as they typically get all the moisture they need from what they eat. Baby dragons need to be misted once or twice a day or have a shadow dish of water in their cage to ensure their tiny bodies don't get dehydrated. Also, baby dragons don't always take to greens right away, content to eat only crickets. You can also mist the side of the cage and let the dragon drink the water as it rolls off the side of the glass.

If providing sufficient water for a baby beardie is troublesome for you for some reason, maybe you better get an older dragon. (or reconsider getting a dragon at all). When young, they need to be fed 2-3 times a day, shouldn't be too much effort to spray them with a plant mister filled with water after they are done eating.
