Who Is the Father?!

apreske May 07, 2012 09:53 AM

My Albino Het Anery gave birth on Saturday to 2 slugs and 39 babies! The only problem is that I don't know who the father is. I paired her with a Hypo Het Snow and a Hypo Pastel. In the litter are, Normals or Pastels?, Hypos, Albinos and Sunglows. Every snake is absolutely beautiful. They have very clean and sometimes aberrant patterns. Usually you can tell the difference between Sunglows and Albinos but with this litter it's hard to distinguish. A lot of the Sunglows and Albinos have a very orange/pink hue to them. Either the Albino Het Anery isn't Het Anery (I'm positive that she is) or the Hypo Pastel is Het Albino. I'm leaning towards the father being the Hypo Pastel but I'm not sure. If someone could look at the pictures and tell me what they think I would appreciate it! I'm stumped. I can post more pictures if I need to.

Thanks!

The only conclusive way to determine parentage is through DNA analysis.

Congrats on the litter.

How could the hypo pastel be the father unless he's het albino given all the albinos and sunglows you got in the litter?? Its much more likely the hypo het snow is the father and you just missed on the snow/moonglow. Those are not great odds when you breed het anery to het anery and again its very possible to not hit any snows.

Obviously the Hypo Het Albino and supposedly het Anery also.

A Pastel Hypo would not produce Albino Boas.

I suppose the Pastel Hypo could be hiding the Albino gene . . . who did you get it from , find out the if there
is a possibility of the Albino gene in that Pastel Hypo.

I suppose without thinking it through on my part there is one other possibility if
you have all fems then it could be a Partho liter.

What I'm trying to say is that the Hypo Pastel could be Het Albino. I don't know how long females can retain sperm from a male but we placed the Hypo Het Snow with her over 6 months ago (she didn't seem interested). On the other hand, we placed the Hypo Pastel with her a little over 4 months ago (she seemed more interested in him and had the babies in a time frame that would correspond with him being the father). I got the Hypo Pastel from Matt Jackson (great guy by the way!). He didn't produce him so I don't know if he will know too much about his genetics but I have asked him about it anyway. Are there any Pastel markers?

The Albino Het Anery and the Hypo Het Snow are proven breeders. I proved out the male myself this year. The other babies that the Hypo Het Snow produced don't look anything like the babies from this litter. I understand that things can vary from litter to litter but I would imagine that there would be some kind of consistency in them if they had the same father. I could be wrong though.
