Grey Tree Frog just found - pictures of frog and new home

frognovice Oct 04, 2003 05:02 PM

I just found a Grey Tree Frog on our hottub the other day and have put together a new home for him. I just posted the pictures on the FROG board because that is where I posted my original questions to help identify him because I didn't know what he was. I have posted a picture of his tummy and his new surroundings which turned out really cool. You can go to the frog board it you want to see or you can search the photogallery for Tubby (that is his name)... there are pictures in the Tree Frog gallery of him on the hottub and then his tummy. The pictures of the home are in the terrarium gallery. I will attach the big picture of the home here....

I never knew having a frog could be so much fun!

Looks nice but, how can it breath? Not only do you need air to breath but since you are dealing with an amphibian you need good sirculation of air since there is so much water involved. You dont want any bacteria causing problems with this guy.

The top comes off. Currently I have a screen clipped over the opening and have put the top on turned so each corner has the screen area exposed. We are going to build a square with wood and will put screens all around (like a spacer) and put the top on top of that.

How tall do you think the spacer screen should be? two inches high?

I'd think three?

I would just strateagicly replace some of the glass around the top with screen as long as the top lifts off instead of ruining it with wood. I just think ur idea would make the metal rod frame and glass look out of place.

I would think that putting screen in the top would let the tank dry out too fast. putting the screen in the bottom would let air in but hold humidity in at the top.

Putting them on the bottom will let humidity outfaster since it has to rise from the bottom up. I would just take one of the ones that are on an angle like this / put a screen in it and one on the other side like this put a screen in it also so air goes directly into one side and down and the can circulate trhu the other. Pluss Greys dont need to high of humidity that the terrarium wont hold.
